The Space

The soaring main sanctuary, graced with antique statuary and artwork as well as specially commissioned pieces, accommodates an audience of 1,000. A smaller side chapel seats 100. The creation of Santa Fe artist Ramon Lopez, the small chapel is reminiscent of early mission churches of the Southwest, with a carved ceiling, colorfully painted altar screen and windows made of selenite, a natural mineral found in New Mexico.

The Sound

Technicians from Lively-Fulcher Organ Builders in Alexandra, Virginia, described the acoustical characteristics of the cruciform church as “exceptional” when they installed the new 2,500-pipe organ their workshop had crafted, in 2004. The reverberation delay in the sanctuary has been timed at three seconds when empty and two seconds when the church is full, the international standard for most music. The pipe organ itself is a product of the finest craftsmanship available today, and it is capable of producing heavenly, muted accompaniment or rumbling resonance in featured solos.
